Children learn best in an environment which is nurturing, peaceful and loving, and for many children this environment is home.

However, sometimes it is helpful for parents to share home education skills, especially when there is just one child learning on his/her own.

Opening our hearts and homes to other parents and children is one way to develop a larger family unit with community spirit – a situation in which some parents and children may feel more supported.

The Meadowsweet Homeschool offers a broad curriculum at minimal cost in a caring environment in which parents can also offer and share skills.

The Setting

Our home is a simple town house with garden, backing onto a park. The ground floor home education room opens onto the garden. There is a toilet and shower. There is also a resources room for storage and some activities.

We offer nature study, gardening, yoga, sewing, spinning, music, as well as core curriculum subjects: English, Maths, Science, History, plus Spanish, Art and Crafts.

Food

An organic vegetarian lunch is served daily at 12:30pm , and is free for parents & children attending the whole day i.e. 10am-3pm .

Inspiration

We are inspired by the writings of many home education teachers and also of Rudolf Steiner. We have a deep love of nature to share, links with Langlebury Childrens Farm, and a biodynamic farm for summer events in the west of Ireland

We have a large library of inspirational books which may be borrowed for a small weekly charge.

Outings

We plan many trips for this coming year including Ruislip Lido and woodland, Barnes wetland Centre, Celtic Heritage, St Albans & Oxford Museums , Langlebury Childrens Farm, and classical musical concerts.

Sharing

We welcome ideas and practical help from parents. We plan to produce a newsletter in the future and organise small conference events, and fundraising events. We are non-profit making venture.

Spirituality

We are a multi-denominational group welcoming families of all spiritual paths. Our morning circle at 10am will honour our diverse paths with the lighting of a candle, and a simple verse or song.

There will be occasional opportunities for children to share in devotional activity and meditation sessions.
